Earlier in their career, Metallica was just a Thrash Metal band. Later in their career, they transitioned to a mix of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal/Thrash Metal. It was formed in 1981 and they are in Los Angeles, California. Their lyrical content consists of life, death, internal struggles, anger, and corruption.


Metallica is a North American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1981. The band was initially formed when James Hetfield replied to an advertisement that drummer Lars Ulrich posted in a local newspaper called The Recycler.



The band has won nine Grammy Awards and has had five consecutive albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200. The band has sold an estimated 100 million records worldwide. In 2009, Metallica was the fourth highest-selling music artist selling more than 52 million albums in the United States alone.
