Glastonbury Festival was held the first time in 1970, one day after Jimi Hendrix died. It was in a smaller scale, with an attendence of 1.500 people and the ticket included free milk from the farm. Now, it’s a 5 day performing arts festival that still happens in Pilton (Somerset), with an attendence, in 2019, of over 203.000 people. Where, alongside the music, the festival also presents dance, comedy, theater, circus, cabaret shows.
It is inspired by the ethos of the hippie, the counterculture of the 1960s and the free-festival movement. Most of the festival staff are volunteers, which helps to raise millions that are donated to charity. Also, the accomodations are camping areas next to the festival venue, so most people camp during these days, or use caravans and trailer tents.
The Glastonbury Festival, has been awarded, between 2010 and 2020, by the NME Awards, with 10 Best Festival awards.
